Three decades after his first HBO special (1981’s The Pee-wee Herman Show), Paul Reubens returns to the network for an exclusive presentation of his hit Broadway show. The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway was shot at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in NYC in January 2011, immediately following the conclusion of its limited Broadway engagement. Putting a spin on the concept of “Fun for children of all ages,” The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway will introduce a new generation to Pee-wee’s Secret Word of the Day, the tequila dance, Penny the claymation star, and more, while delighting established fans with the revival of their favourite characters (Chairry and Jambi!) and catchphrases (“I know you are, but what am I?” “Why don’t you make me?”). This homage to 1950s TV kiddie-shows is complete with up-to-the-moment cultural references fueled by ironic twists unique to Pee-wee. Pee-wee’s Playhouse is filled with wonders, and The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway brings it to life with more zany comedy and wacky characters than any show on the Great White Way! Infinity!
