An HBO Original film which portrays Lyndon Johnson’s presidency term and its spiralling descent into the Vietnam War. Constantly acting on advice from his Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, President Johnson finds his domestic policy agenda for the Great Society overtaken by an ever-demanding commitment to end the war. The film also depicts his political skills as he crosses swords with political foes such as Bobby Kennedy and Governor George Wallace. Despite support and encouragement from his friends, Johnson slowly realizes that America’s confidence in his management of war is slipping, leading him to announce that he will not proceed in running for his second term during the 1968 Presidential elections.
